Trolls and Such

Don’t believe Stephen King or any of the horror writers. They write fiction. Nothing from the psychic world can hurt you. Horror books and movies give a distorted view of the psychic world. Let me tell you what a couple of spooks really look like.

I’ve met a gnome and a troll, creatures right out of a fairy tale. Elemental is their correct name. I believe they’ve been here since before dinosaurs roamed the earth. Unlike us , gnomes and trolls live a very long time. In the distant future they will again have the earth to themselves. But they’re patient, they can wait.

Gnomes live in woods and fields, and all wild places. They love the openness of the desert, where they can roam in peace. They are solitary creatures. Most of the time, we are unaware of their existence; often they can pass by us unnoticed. Go alone at night to a field or meadow; you can sense them if you concentrate. Most people feel a chill down their arm or spine. Most of us feel a tightening in the gut. Very sensitive people can see them.

No reason to be upset though; they can’t hurt you. They live in another dimension. Usually, they are oblivious to your presence. Once in a blue moon one will get curious and stop to watch us humans. Just like we would stop to watch a squirrel. They can’t follow you far either. They have a territory to guard, and they’re homebodies.

My favorite gnome lives on an abandoned road in Chester County. Just the right place for a gnome. The deserted road winds around a hill and then alongside a pasture. The Brandywine River flows slowly by at the base of the hill.

Charley, my name for this gnome, is a slow moving fellow. Crossing the road may take him five minutes. Going about his gnomish errand takes him awhile. Sometimes he will stand there until I notice him. I wonder if he’s as curious about me as I am about him.

There’s an ethereal beauty to him. When he stands still he’s invisible. When he moves he looks like a film of water pouring over thin air. A friend of mine described him as looking like the creature in the movie "Predator," without the threatening feeling.

Trolls live near bridges. Trolls and bridges always seem to go together, like peanut butter and jelly, or socks and shoes. A troll is a special kind of elemental. Trolls are shapelier (in other words they have a discernible form) than most gnomes. The pictures you see of trolls in children’s books are fairly accurate.

My favorite troll lives by a bridge in about ten miles from my home. I don’t know his name so I’ll just call him "Glog." Trolls have funny names. Glog one crawled into the back seat of my car, and hitched a ride for a block or two. He scared the wits out of a friend who was riding with me. That sort of stunt is very unusual, as trolls don’t like to be near iron. They also try to keep to one side of a stream. You see they don’t care much for water either. Trolls aren’t often much of a problem , because they never want to leave their bridge. They are extremely possessive of their territory. It they get too far from their bridge (heaven forbid) another troll may come along and capture the prize.

Grouchiness is a common trait of the bridge folk. They’re less benign than other elementals. Scaring people is one of their favorite sports. It’s all they know how to do for entertainment. But, other than a quick rush of adrenaline, nothing solid really affected by  a gnome or a troll. Confusion is about the most mischief they can cause.

Since No-Name has gotten used to me occasionally coming around he generally just hides under his bridge. He knows I’m onto him, so he leaves me alone. If you play along with trolls, they can be amusing. They don’t mean any real harm. Practical jokes are their favorite form of humor. Protecting their bridge is their main concern

This is the standard card for Justice. I can’t improve it. the time. Libra is the Zodiac sign for the Justice card and its Hebrew letter is Lamed. It means an ox goad. So, Justice is the goad of the Fool whose Hebrew letter is and ox. There’s much meat to chew on that bone.

It has taken me a while to figure how to approach this card. There is a lot of negative text written about it, You know all the flack about karma and how you reap what you sow. If that’s true, I must have planted a huge crop of good karma. During and after my recent surgeries people have been good to me. I have learned some humility along the way. I’ve gained some humility, certainly not enough. I’ve always been arrogant. Having g to ask for help to do daily tasks I had taken for granted humbled me. I learned that I had more friends than I would have believed. I wanted for nothing. My landlady even changed my sheets and did laundry for me.

The Judgement card has come to represent the kindness of strangers to me. The other day I was in the local convince store. (I my area the Wawa is the number one convince stores.) I only had a five-dollar bill on me. I ask the clerk if I had enough, if not I had a blinky card with me. He told me it was $5.10 but that it was ok. A young lady on the way out the door asked if I need some change. If so she had some. I was stunned. I had never seen either of them before and may not ever see either one again. Yet, they were willing to do that for a stranger.

These small acts of kindness from strangers changed the meaning of the Judgement card. I started to notice the positive side of the karma concept. We need to keep our minds open about this concept. It’s easy to get caught in or notice road rage and rudeness. America is a country in a hurry. I often wonder what these people are doing on my road in my way. Who do they think they are?

See what I mean. A few stray thoughts and I’m almost off track. Then someone allows me to make a left turn at a dangerous intersection and I get my balance back. Balance is an important concept with this card. It’s the fulcrum for the major arcana. All the other major cards revolve around it. Its Hebrew letter means and Ox goad. This is the power which drives the Fool. His Hebrew letter is an Ox. There’s a lot of meat to chew on this bone.

At its core justice is a strange concept. It's the belief that there is right for every wrong. Certainly our current system lacks Satisfaction. For instance how many innocent people have been released from jail because DNA tests proved they couldn't have committed the crime.

Let's talk about prison. Is it really a solution? An older idea may work here. At one time you killed a man you had to pay his family. The Indians made you hunt for his family and yours. I found no references to women murderers. However, I will look into the matter. Each era has its own Idea of justice.

Americans believe we live in a land where laws and the idea of liberty and justice for all under the law is the ideal. Most of the time I just shake my head and wonder at the workings of the Justice system.

Dear Robert: How does one go about reconnecting with a dear friend who I have not seen for years? What card would symbolize a successful friendship beginning once again? Curious

Dear Curious: The six of cups followed by the six of wands would be the perfect combination for a reunion. But in your case you might get a rejection from this old friend.

Dear Robert:
We moved into our house in Cottonwood, Ca about a month and a half ago.  Several bizarre things have gone on around here.  Most recently, something killed my hen this morning---whatever it was, it took the head and left the body.  I am a very spiritual person and I cannot ignore these things any longer.  A couple of minutes ago I googled websites to seek help and the lightbulb in the lamp on this desk burst.  Could you please give me some guidance as to whom could help me?  The previous owner of this house was married for 30plus years and all I know is that her husband died---don't know if it was in this house or not, but I strongly feel his presence here.
Thank you for any info.
Susan Duncan

Dear Susan: I think you should report the incident to the police. Pronto. Ghosts often make noises to get your attention. The best advice I can give you is to ignore it. If you want to pursue this further  contact the International Spiritualist Church. You can find a local branch by  Googling the above name.
